After racing in yet another World Cup (in Zolder, Belgium) yesterday, i was a little tired today and did very little writing. By tomorrow i should have my race report from this last race submitted to Cyclocross Magazine.
I did, however, take time today to thoroughly relax with lots of couch play and left the house briefly to run some errands and buy myself a holiday gift or seven.
First stop was to my favorite cheap supermarket called Aldi. They sell rotating staple items like pasta, tomato sauce, coffee, wine, bras, bike trainers, wedding dresses, and boxed wine.
Next was to my favorite store in all of Belgium. It is a thrift store called Spit. I go there for set items like pocketable backpacks that i use for shopping when on the bike, fun winter hats, funky tees, outdated bike jerseys, and exotic dishware. I got lucky with three hats and two backpacks, each 80 cents but jonas scored more than I. He found a stylish chocolate pudding-colored short sleeve button-down that'll go perfect with his Levis. His other winner was a pale blue insulated vest - both 4€. And lastly I found him a scrunchable backpack he can use to carry his meals into work when takes the scooter.
As Jonas waited on the checkout line, I ran over to their book section. I never checked it out before since i assumed they were all in dutch. But to my surprise, there was a whole English section. By the time i settled on some books, peeled my eyes away from the rest, and ran over to checkout, Jonas was already checked out. Since the line was too long to wait again, the moment was gone. I will have to read my remaining two books real slowly to drag them out until I go back to Spit again.

That is so funny, a store that carries, bras, bike trainers, ect. I have been reading and kind of in a spiritual place. After the rain, I got the blues really bad and had to escape the house. Went to see "The tale of Despereaux." It was great, and perfect for my maturity level... ha. Great animation. It is also a children's book.

AND it is all for super cheap Rickie! Holiday season can be a rough time of year on many of us. For me, it is always easiest to keep myself busy. Great call on going to the movies. I want to see matagascar 2 next. Jonas and i have been so busy that we havent used two free movie coupons we were given a year ago but i will go see the movie next week i think.
Hey bbw: There are two spits, both just ouside the leuven ring. Mine is next to the bowling alley a block or two away from Naamseport.

Disc brakes on a cross bike is sort of an oxymoron in my opinion - two things that should never go together. You never want to fully stop on a cross bike, especially quickly and powerfully as with disc brakes. Skinny wheels on dirt dont play well together with powerful stopping. And for racing, if you can stop that easily you're out of the race.
If you plan to ride down the sides of mountains on a cross bike, then maybe they could help but even so i'd prefer the canti brakes. I have done a bunch of the MTB tours here always with the cross bike and have been just fine.

...fully share yer opinion as regards cross bikes & canti's...& i'm the guy who probably most regularly rides his cross rig here in the county...
...seems seasonal for a lotta folks but pour moi, it's just what i care to ride on the dirt, all year round...& paul components canti's are (oh, no, i'm really gonna use this youthful colloquialism, so please forgive me) 'the way i role'...
...rather i should say "that's the way i slow my role"...

...it's not polite for a lady to 'spit' a first time, never mind spitting again, so aren't you lucky yer a bike racer chick in a sport that allows for it ???...

Hey peanut.. thanks for the insight on the disc brakes. I agree , powerful stoppers with skinny wheels can be scary.. I have the same sensations when I run 1.5 inchers on a mountainbike.. the bike skids all over the place when braking hard. Big tyres offer more traction when braking hard.
As for the Spit..geez.. I had to think hard as to where the bowling alley on the Naamsestraat was, must have been like 25 years ago since I last was there.. ouch :)
