Fantasy Cyclocross and Gardens

I just finished a hard training period and am finally enjoying a relaxing week. It is giving me (and jonas since he does most of my training) some time to catch up on stuff and do little projects and read a lot.

According to a few Cyclocross Magazine subscribers, I should be receiving my copy any day. I am really excited to see how my interview of World Champ Marianne Vos' interview turned out. Hopefully it comes before my rest week is over!
Speaking of Cyclocross Magazine, starting NOW you can play FANTASY CYCLOCROSS where you choose your fantasy team and track its progress against the other fantasy teams. At the end of cross season, they give really cool prizes away. I already signed up and of course i chose myself for the team! Click HERE to PLAY!

The most exciting of all projects I've done so far this week was planting a garden. Ok, well jonas dug up the dirt while I sat nearby reading a book and sipping homemade lemonade. We planted basil, spinach, scallions, parsley, veldsla (field salad), turnips, corn, kale, bieslook (not sure what it is in english - looks like mini scallion with garlic taste), farmers salad (again, not sure what it is but will find out its' taste soon enough) and a few other items i cant remember. It looks like nothing so far but i look forward to our little square of bare dirt coming alive.
I also saw my doctor today. Thankfully after a thorough exam, he gave me a clean bill of health. He specializes in pro cyclists so I always feel good getting his approval.

Tomorrow is the old mans ride. I love easy weeks. Although i must admit that hard training weeks are exciting in some twisted self-inflicting-torturous way.

Hey Christine, I already have my mag, but haven't had time to relax and take it all in. I also took a survey to win a frame. Since I don't really do cyclo cross, my input probably wasn't that good, but I did mention your name which I believe was about articles ect. I am now a member of the Fayetteville Wheelmen/Tyson Racing Team. I get really good stuff for discounted rates and don't have to race, but I can if I want to get the experience of being on a team. Thursday night I go for my first group ride to learn pacing and drafting skills. It will be a great way to get group riding skills, ect. and to meet new people with simular interest, and get involved in volunteer work. I plan on trying racing next year, but I want to work on my skills first and get some confidence. My conditioning is good, but being older, recovery isn't as fast as the young ones, not that I'm that old as age is just a number. When I take some pics of my new kit, I will do a blog post. Best of luck this coming year as I know you will do well.

Just finished your article. That was really good. I feel like I was talking to the young lady in person, almost like a friend. Very good job! Keep up the great journalism!

Nice work on the garden. It must have really taken it out of you watching Jonas do all that hard graft whilst you sipped lemonade. Well I guess someone needs to supervise and manage teh project. :)

Sue and I love our 'small' vegetable garden. Never enough to really sustain us without supplementing it with shop bought produce but still there really is nothing like picking a carrot out of the garden, brushing off the dirt and eating it there and then!

We have Potatoes, corn, tomatoes, Beetroot, spring onions (scallions), carrots, lettuce, kale, polus various herbs. We have some garlic chives which are similar to a mini scallion, they are all part of the alium family.

Glad you have a clean bill of health from the quack. I guess your rib is all repaired now and ready for your road season? Hope so!

I've had CX magazine for a week or so now, so I am sure your's is on its way :) the Marianne Vos interview is brilliant. I was intrigued to read about your first meeting, in the shower ;) Ha! As a rider (and friend to the stars) yourself you seem able to the interview on the level of your subjects that 'normal' journalists probably cannot get, or don't portray. It's awesome that she looks for the fun in riding, even at world/olympic champion level.

As for the rest of the magazine, I am savouring it due to the sporadic nature of it's issue. Like a fine wine I musn't guzzle it down. I intersperse it with some Embrocation Mag and some Rapha Rouleur, for my 'high end' reading matter :)

Your garden looks great! Can't wait to see it. Wish we could get ours going again, we just don't seem to find the time. But our raspberries are doing great right now - yum! Oh, I think bieslook is chives in English. Does that sound right?
Cheers and hope to get together soon!
