The bloody part of the story starts at home with new toothbrush - and packaging - in hand. I tried for five minutes to pry it open with my bare hands to no avail. I then grabbed the scissors. Even the scissors just barely won the battle versus thick impenetrable plastic.
But once the scissors took the project as far as it could before breaking on me, I had to finish it manually. I learned the hard way that soft skin is no match for sharred plastic. It sliced and poked me all over my hands until they looked like a played-out kindergarten tick-tack-toe board - hence the blood you see on my brand new toothbrush. Hopefully the bristles are easier on my gums than its wrapping was on my hands.
If anyone knows why companies insist on putting their products in too-thick plastic and oversized wrappings, please let me know!

Scabs on the fingers just make you look tougher on the bike.
If it's any consolation, I've found those electric toothbrushes work pretty good on muddy CX bike crevices. Just hold it and let the brush do the work.
That damn stiff packing plastic! Worse than paper cuts and just a step down from stanley blades! Ouch!
The wrapping wouldn't be so bad if wasn't heat sealed!
Wrapped hard to prevent theft.
If they put a thinner plastic on it or only covered the top half in plastic, wouldnt that be equal? I seems silly to do an overkill wrapping to deter stealing.
hey joe biker - yeah, i bleed tough. haha love it! Thanks for the reusable idea.
I'm low-tech on toothbrushes. Go with the old style. If ya want healthy teeth and gums, flossing is where it's at.
I already floss at least once a day but i really do love the vibrating toothbrushes - makes brushing my teeth fun.
I've been eyeing my electric toothbrush as a household item that goes hummmmmmm...Oh wait, I'm no longer on the porn chat line
Yep, works for that too...so i hear.
christine, it probably had a "Child Protected Wrapper." I always tell my friends this when they can't open something. Yes, pretty rediculous wrapping something so well that even the strongest can't get it out. I always wonder what the elderly go through. I also hate DVD wrappers, toothbrush boxes, ect. ect. What are these manufacturers thinking. Oh I know, all of us consumers are terrorist in disquise and they are protecting their products from us with an inpenetratable force field of plastic.
Hope you didn't bleed to death.
Chain cleaner, great idea.
